Praise for Battle of the Bulge:

“It’s completely nailed the right ways to present a tabletop game in a digital format...” — No High Scores

“Battle of the Bulge is a landmark iPad game. It’s deep without feeling complex, and fun without feeling light. Further, it’s beautiful, both visually and aurally, and so intuitive that you don’t need a tutorial to learn the interface. If you’re at all into turn-based gaming, give this one a try. If you’re not, give this one a try, anyway.” — MobileTechReview

“A game that will make historical strategy diehards swoon, while also being pretty enough, and easy enough to learn, to draw in people who never knew that this was the game theyd been waiting for.” — TouchArcade

“In terms of war simulation games on the App Store, I haven’t seen a better game…” — TUAW

“…a game of considerable majesty awaits you…” — Gamezebo

“Easily the most educational game I’ve ever played.” — Eurogamer

"Battle of the Bulge is as cold, brutal, and unforgiving as the titular conflict, but its also one of the top choices for hardcore iPad strategists." - Pocket Gamer UK

Pros and cons of Battle of the Bulge app for iPhone and iPad

Battle of the Bulge app good for

I have been playing for one day only. I have not tried a multiplayer game yet. The cons: - the solitaire experience is too short. There are only two scenarios, and the first one is so constrained it leaves few choices to players. Despise the choice of two different sides and two different AI, I finished the solitaire game the day I bought the app. That is something you should know if you are planning to play solitaire only. - the scenarios - only two on launch date - are too constrained. The replay value is low because players do not have enough time and space to develop alternative strategies. There are only a few good moves that allow the Axis player to reach the objectives in time. Playing the Allies can get boring because it is often about holding a position in a forest and passing turns. - the AI is weak, which is to be expected with such a complex game. Its choices seem to indicate that it is scripted only - no planning - which is a little weird considering that time is such an important aspect of the scenario objectives. On the other hand it seems quite good at analysing support lines. The pros: - Production quality is excellent. The user experience is great. - The game system is very interesting. It is easy to jump into the game using the tutorial. The system has a lot of depth. Players must read the game rules if they want to improve their skills. Some combat modifiers are too easy to overlook - artillery for instance. A visual reminder would have been nice - maybe as an animation during combat. Conclusion: - Totally worth the price asked for the quality and the effort put into the production. Disappointing scenarios. Disappointing solitaire longevity. A move in the right direction but we are not there yet.
Very good dev quality, deep game concept, history seems quite respected and very well outlined! Playing axis and concluding a major victory is the challenge! Once this is achieved replayability is (for now?) poor. Considering how detailed and deep are this game rules we expect more long scenarios and many more episodes! Bravo!
An engrossing board game, with an incredibly slick UI. Perfect!
Hands down the best wargame, but its approachable enough that it can easily be enjoyed by the non-hardcore gaming crowd. Note, its not casual (thank goodness), but it can be picked up in 15 minutes (although beating the very decent AI is not trivial!) Recommended for any gamer with an interest in WWII history.
What a great game. multiplayer is fast and fun. The game is accessible to anyone including grognard and novice war gamers. Only wish it had more scenarios but then again we wouldnt have such great ai if they were not allowed to focus on one map, additional scenarios should be dlc not sold as a new game which seems to be the model in place.
This game is absolutely amazing... It is the best wargame in the app store (very) and surpass the majority of those on pc! Please, to all others wargamer builders: take notes!

Some bad moments

still no sound (at all!)on air 2 (ios 9) and still sloppy framerate (where it was buttersmooth before Slitherine bought out the developer). You (Slitherine) destroyed a beautiful game. Thanks for...nothing.I hope youll NEVER update DoM and Desert Fox (although DoM has soundproblems on ios9 as well...no music or environmental noises)
no level to adjust, slow AI, booring, only one map and a handful of units, very primitive in comparision to modern strategy games on PC, if this is the best strategy game on iOS (as some reviewers stated) then -> poor iOS
So, they took a game that played great on phones and tablets and then shredded it o make it Windows and Mac compatible... There are tons of games better suited to the pc/Mac environment. Destroying the tablet/phone playability of this game to make it run on those platforms is, well, stupid. Also, the new multi-player interface is a definite downgrade from Game Center. This game has been ruined! Save your $10!
The game is good. For as long as it lasts. One (small) map, three battle phases. And thats it. Unless you want to pay yet more money for extras.
Want to play a Bulge game that has overpowered americans? Want to pay a price that is very high for the amount of game you get? Then this little beauty is for you..... Stay away...
Dont waste your money, game is actually good but only worth$1.99
