I enjoyed it. Too bad the solitaire game is so short.
I have been playing for one day only. I have not tried a multiplayer game yet.
The cons:
- the solitaire experience is too short. There are only two scenarios, and the first one is so constrained it leaves few choices to players. Despise the choice of two different sides and two different AI, I finished the solitaire game the day I bought the app. That is something you should know if you are planning to play solitaire only.
- the scenarios - only two on launch date - are too constrained. The replay value is low because players do not have enough time and space to develop alternative strategies. There are only a few good moves that allow the Axis player to reach the objectives in time. Playing the Allies can get boring because it is often about holding a position in a forest and passing turns.
- the AI is weak, which is to be expected with such a complex game. Its choices seem to indicate that it is scripted only - no planning - which is a little weird considering that time is such an important aspect of the scenario objectives. On the other hand it seems quite good at analysing support lines.
The pros:
- Production quality is excellent. The user experience is great.
- The game system is very interesting. It is easy to jump into the game using the tutorial. The system has a lot of depth. Players must read the game rules if they want to improve their skills. Some combat modifiers are too easy to overlook - artillery for instance. A visual reminder would have been nice - maybe as an animation during combat.
Conclusion:
- Totally worth the price asked for the quality and the effort put into the production. Disappointing scenarios. Disappointing solitaire longevity. A move in the right direction but we are not there yet.
